Yes. You are not required to use an investigator or recovery service to claim unclaimed property. You may file a claim directly with the agency holding the property at no charge. West Coast Unclaimed Assets provides an optional service for those who would like assistance with research, documentation, and the claim process.
No. There are no upfront fees. Our fee is 10% of the amount successfully recovered, and you pay only after your claim is approved and your property is returned to you.
Yes. We take your privacy and the security of your personal information seriously. We do not ask you to send sensitive information, such as Social Security numbers or identification documents, through our initial contact form or regular email. When supporting documentation is required, we provide instructions for submitting it securely.

West Coast Unclaimed Assets is an independent investigator registered with the California State Controller’s Office.
Requirements vary depending on the property and type of claim. You may be asked to provide identification, proof of your Social Security number or tax identification number, proof connecting you to a reported address, or other supporting documentation. We will help you determine what is required for your specific claim.
Unclaimed property belonging to a deceased person may still be claimable by an estate or eligible heir. These claims often require additional documentation. We can review the circumstances and help determine the appropriate next steps.
California requires the claimant’s signature to be notarized when the total value of the cash property being claimed is $1,000 or more. Claims involving securities or safe-deposit-box contents also require notarization, regardless of value. If notarization is required for your claim, we’ll let you know and provide clear instructions.
A Social Security card is not the only way to verify your Social Security number. California accepts certain other documents showing your full SSN, such as a W-2 or qualifying pay stub. We'll help you determine which documentation is appropriate for your claim.
Yes. We can research additional unclaimed property that may be connected to you through prior addresses, former names, or other identifying information. If we identify additional property that may belong to you, we’ll let you know and help determine the appropriate next steps.
